Advice on Acne Skin Care
Acne, also termed acne vulgaris, is a major challenge for people who want a glowing and clear complexion. Too often people leave acne without treatment, considering it a minor problem. Unfortunately this may result in long-lasting dermal discoloration, permanent scarring of the skin and even social problems. These skin issues can be fixed with the right skin care therapy and proper skin care products.
Acne Causes
To understand exactly what acne is, we must start below the skin's surface, deep in the hair follicle. These hair follicles are lined with skin cells and contain sebaceous glands, which are responsible for producing sebum, or oil. Normally, dead skin cells inside the follicles emerge on the skin's surface through sebum secretion and they are then no longer a problem. Sometimes these dead skin cells stick to each other and block the pore.
A sac, or micro comedone, is formed under this blockage, and it contains oil and dead skin cells. Bacteria can grow freely in this environment, feeding on the dead skin cells and oil for fuel. A whitehead (also known as a closed comedone), or a blackhead (open comedone), will form as this sac continues growing. In more serious cases, a larger sac will form, spurred on by cells sent by the body's immune system to fight the infection. In turn, a painful nodule (papule or pustule) or cyst will grow.
Additional Acne Causes
Stress and heredity are also factors that contribute to acne breakouts. Diet is also a major contributor to acne. Since dark marks or blemishes are very problematic, women usually apply heavy, oil-based makeup or foundation to cover the marks. Alas, the makeup only triggers more acne. Washing the face too roughly and using abrasive sponges and scrubs on the facial skin contributes to acne breakouts. People who use pomades and hair oils, specifically black women, may see acne breakouts form along the hairline and forehead areas.
Acne Tips
1. Popping blemishes can lead to infection, so do not pick at them. Permanent scarring will form if picking and squeezing does not stop. If necessary, your doctor will eliminate the comedones with sterile instruments.
2. Some people think that excessive sweat or dirt can cause acne. But the truth is that blackheads are filled with oxidized sebum, not dirt. Rough scrubbing won't fix the problem, it may make it worse. Gently clean your face twice a day with soft soap or cleansers formulated to care for acne. Pat dry, don't rub.
3. Noncomedogenic solutions are certified to not cause or aggravate acne. Use noncomedogenic cosmetics and skin care solutions. Also try to use only natural products on your face.
4. Most of the acne treatments found in your local pharmacy make skin sensitive to sun. Discuss this with your dermatologist and use sun block when you are outdoors. Do not use tanning beds or tanning lamps.
5. Use cosmetic treatments like facials, only after consulting your doctor. Acne is aggravated by some facial treatments.
6. Do not touch acne lesions with your hands, as this makes acne worse. In addition, try to keep hair off of your forehead.
Now you know how to get rid of acne. Keep in mind that natural products are the best for acne skin care. Knowing the acne causes allows you to beat it quicker. Pay attention to what you use on your face, and be gentle with it!
