Arthritis Exercises: Beneficial For Maintaining Joint Flexibility And Minimizing Joint Pain

by Maria Kinsella

Exercise is not what you want to do when you are afflicted by joint pain and arthritis. Exercise is the best medicine to ease your discomfort and help your joints stay loose and flexible.

Exercises to reduce pain in your joints need not be complicated and most you can do right in the comfort of your own home. Once you understand the basic components of the types of movements that will bring relief to your joints, you can easily put together a routine to keep limber and reduce pain.

Three main types of arthritis exercises should be used: range-of-motion or flexibility, strengthening, and overall fitness moves. Each kind is important to your health and well being but, range of motion exercises will ease muscle stiffness and work to keep your joints flexible most. Motion ranges pertain to the typical amount that your joints can move in specific directions.

It might take a while for painful and stiff joints to relax and loosen up. But continue doing your exercises slowly and smoothly, and your range of motion will gradually increase. A few examples of good range-of-motion exercises to do are hip lifts, lower back rotations, back press and release, elbow bending, arm reaches, arm extensions, and finger curls.

When you and your doctor decide on an appropriate routine for you, to reap the most benefit of these exercises, aim to complete it twice a day. Try to do each exercise for 3 to 10 repetitions. Be sure to move slowly, and complete each movement in a steady manner-never bounce or lurch.

A lot of people don't think to breathe as they do their exercises for arthritis. It is beneficial to count your breaths out loud. It's normal to experience some discomfort when you begin, but stop immediately if you feel severe pain.

Maintaining daily activities, such as household chores, stair climbing, dressing, and so forth, are an important part of living with arthritis. However, these types of activities are not always enough. Building and following a routine of exercises designed specifically to address your arthritis and joint pain is essential to maximizing your pain reduction.

Exercise may be one of the best treatments for those who suffer from arthritis and joint pain. Although it may not sound like a pleasant prospect, getting those joints moving increases flexibility and will reduce discomfort in the long run. You do not need to leave your home or learn complicated routines to reduce the pain in your joints. The movements that will ease your pain are very simple and can be learned very quickly. It is easy to devise a routine that will keep your joints from hurting and keep them flexible enough for you to go about your everyday activities. The author recommends Flex Protex to aid with joint discomfort.
